enjoy svaneti. georgian cuisine
It is fantastic! One of the good reasons to come to Svaneti is to try georgian cuisine dishes. Here, in our hospitable guest house in Mestia Mazeri village we offer fresh and natural food cooked with love, and according to ancient traditions of Svaneti. We use local organic ingredients including fresh vegetables, a rich set of aromatic mountain herbs, local produced milk, homemade cheese and yogurt.
Svaneti cuisine consists of various vegetarian and meat dishes. It is rich in herbs, hazelnuts and walnuts, pomegranates, pickles and pungent seasonings, eggplant, plums, corn, kidney beans, scallions, hot peppers, mint, basil, garlic, various sorts of cheese. Svaneti dishes have unique teste due to rich usage of local spices, such as khmeli suneli, white mustard, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, cumin, cloves and saffron. The most famous and legendary of them is 'Svaneti salt', which is used in practically anything from meat to soup, salad, and vegetables.
You may have heard about such dishes as Khachapuri (cheese bread), Kubdari (bread with meat inside), Sulguni (white, salty cheese), Shusha (melted cheese with potato puree), Lobio, Khinkali (dumpling, filled with spiced meat, cheese or vegetables), Lobiani (very tasty Georgian thin tortillas with bean filling).
Georgian feast is an important part of local culture and our guests never stay hungry :)
